Digital Flower Habitat

Parametric Garden

Gathered characteristics of natural flower design, allowed me to create a parametric representation of the organic entity. This parametric design space is flexible enough to create multiple possibilities that differ from one another.

Here I exemplify the math behind the digital petal that will construct each flower in the garden.

  1. Half petal contour in top view (XY plane)
  2. Reflection across the X-axis (XY plane)
  3. Create an arc between the two reflected sides (YZ plane)
  4. The contour in the side view, both of the outline and the centerline (XZ plane)
  5. Construct a surface out of the four curves

Next, the petals are repeated and rotated around the flower’s central axis. Then, each entity scaled by a linear changing factor. Finally, the leaves change their distance from the central axis, so that as the petal gets smaller, it becomes closer to the center.
